With the summer heat, here’s a project in our highlights section, the highlighted projects of JordiEnsenyatDisseny.
As you know, this monthly section takes a look at a graphic design project that we believe, for its merit, content, message and quality, deserves one of our posts and the visibility we think it’s earned.
The graphic design project I’m bringing you goes by the name Thinking out loud and is signed by the agency Bendita Gloria for their client Anna Bonny.
What is the Thinking out loud project?
It’s a very interesting project, bold and much needed. It takes on the taboo around women who, after undergoing breast surgery, a mastectomy, decide not to have reconstruction.
These women find that once they’ve been rid of the tumour and come through surgery successfully, they have to face the uncomprehending looks of a society that doesn’t understand why they haven’t had breast reconstruction. They’re socially stigmatised.
From that more than compelling starting point, the agency Bendita Gloria has designed and laid out the catalogue for their client Anna Bonny, who makes lingerie for women who’ve chosen that path.
In a display of courage and talent, their proposal handles the subject of breast cancer in a way that’s entirely its own, and one we take our hats off to.
Using a distinctive language, both verbal and visual, it sets out to connect with its readers in a way that’s seductive and suggestive, and we think it succeeds.
Your Body is a battleground.
You only have to pause on the visual side to catch the metaphor used in the binding.
The graphic and editorial design is very strong, with full bleed images filling the page.
The choice of subjective viewpoints in the photography shows the sexiest side of the design; it’s worth remembering that one of the ultimate aims is to show readers that combining attractiveness and sensuality is perfectly possible once we step away from the preset canon.
The project, whose graphic design we like enormously, doesn’t stop at showing garments: it also reminds us that each of us owns our body and, as such, we can do whatever we please with it.
