Want to get the most out of your blog?
Want the content you make with so much care to count with Google?
Want to reach more people through your blog?
You’ll find the answers to these questions and a few more if you spend a little of your time reading this extremely condensed article.
It’s no secret: search ranking, SEO, is a very important part of how we approach our digital activity.
We might be supporting our business with a good website, with an attractive web design and the information needed to draw in your clients.
It’s also possible we base our sales and outreach strategy solely and exclusively on the digital world.
Either way, here are a few pointers so you can use your blog as a tool to boost the SEO of your website and make GOOGLE a little happier.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and it’s nothing more and nothing less than optimising the content on our website with search engines in mind, especially Google.
Google has a search algorithm that penalises or rewards websites according to the quality and originality of the content we create.
So beyond the blocks of text scattered across our website, it’s well worth having a blog section where we can give free rein to our writing streak.
If we use it properly we’ll be able to feed Google a regular helping of quality content and gain some search ranking from it.
How should I write a blog article aimed at ranking, SEO, web?
There are a few points that are vital and that we should handle with care when creating content on our blog so it has enough value to rank on Google.
The essential points are:
1. Headlines.
2. Body text.
3. Second- and third-level headings.
4. Lists.
5. Article length.
6. Links.
7. Images.
So let’s start at the beginning.
1. Headlines.
Google places a lot of importance on post headlines; to Google, a main headline is an <h1>, a first-level heading.
So it’s worth putting a keyword we want Google to associate us with right there in that headline. For example, if we want to rank for the keyword cheap websites, we’ll include the keyword in the h1 wherever possible.
2. Body text.
The body text is a fantastic opportunity to place our keywords; there’s a figure doing the rounds that says the ideal is around 3% keywords in the body text.
In the same vein we can also go for longtail keywords, which are longer, phrase-length keywords.
3. Second- and third-level headings.
Beyond the main headline already mentioned, it’s ideal to work secondary headings into our article.
That way we gain in quality and readability.
4. Lists.
Just like in this article, we can also use lists, which makes reading far more dynamic and appealing for our readers.
5. Article length.
A great deal has been written about the ideal length for a blog article to be well aimed at ranking on Google.
The figures vary depending on which sources you turn to.
From our own experience we’ve found the minimum number of words a blog article should have is 300.
That said, we won’t see results unless we get to 600 words.
As for the maximum, nothing is set in stone, so frankly, if you have something to say don’t hesitate to leave your mark on the article.
Creating quality content is very productive and it will bear fruit, guaranteed.
6. Links.
A good blog article can point us to another site or to an internal page on our own website.
Just remember to switch on the right «nofollow» and «open in a new window» options.
The first is so we don’t pass ranking to our link, and the second is to open the link without leaving our website.
7. Images.
Finally, add a bit of colour to your article.
Drop still images, videos and animated gifs into the body text.
As well as gaining in dynamism, we’ll also get the chance to tag the images properly and give them visibility in search engines.
00. In general.
Broadly speaking it’s important to create original, quality content; forget copy and paste.
Google can’t stand copycats and has an army of robots dedicated to spotting duplicate content.
With these bare-minimum tips you can start creating content for your blog and show Google you’ve got SEO well in hand.
