We start the week with a piece on a project that caught our eye.

An idea, design and execution worth talking about; this is the beginning of a series of articles we’ll be devoting to the best packaging design of the week.

With it I’ll be letting you in on my finds, sharing the projects that have caught my eye.

The best packaging design of the week

In this first outing with the best packaging design I’m bringing you a piece of work that, to my mind, is exceptional.

The food packaging for Nord Stream, a company that deals in tinned food.

What I find most interesting is how they’ve managed to create an animated packaging design by playing with the moiré effect of black lines.

The moiré effect is the visual interference pattern that results geometrically from the distortion caused by overlaying two patterns or grids at a certain angle. That overlay produces a new pattern with a wave like visual effect.

And what do we get as a result? Fantastic packaging for tinned goods: dead animals in a can, moving on the outside through the animated packaging.

The point here is that when we pull the tin out of the packaging, the moiré lattice makes the figure on the outside move as if it had a life of its own.

To my mind it’s a very well judged piece of packaging graphic design, worth a mention on our blog.

The studio behind the work is LOCO Studio, based in the town of Nizhny Novgorod in the Russian Federation, a name I find unpronounceable.

On the colour side, the graphic design studio has gone for a palette tied to the sea and the catch.

So we have five different versions depending on the type of preserve inside, a device widely used in the world of food packaging.

Conclusion:

Graphic design is always at the creative forefront; the world’s consumption needs invite and oblige creatives to keep evolving in order to arrive at the most extraordinary creations in packaging.

That’s why I’m bringing you the best packaging design of the week.
