Today we’re devoting a post to one particular person, to a maker, to an indivisible unit.
«Individuals» was born out of the need to talk about someone specific, to highlight their contribution to the world of graphic design or any related discipline.
In «Individuals» we’ll put the focus on the things that define someone’s personality and their work.
The order of the posts under this name has nothing to do with how important the author is: it’s random, as is the discipline they excel in or that their work belongs to.
So, without further ado, to launch this section we’re going to talk about Moe Kekana today.
But who is Moe Kekana?
Moe Kekana is an art director at the advertising agency King James who, after spending his hours doing his job, spends his free time giving free rein to his even more creative side and turns into a maker of letters, illustrations, lines and vectors.
In his own words, his whole portfolio is the product of a hobby, with no ambition beyond a maker’s need to express his creativity. Even so, the technique on display is superb, and that’s what really gives his work its value. It’s the meeting point of a hobby and a talent.
“I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.” Albert Einstein
For him it all started in a simple, unassuming way, with no pretensions, and yet hidden inside it we can see in his work the hand of someone meticulous and full of personality.
Mischievous, whimsical and strange: that’s how the artist himself sees his work.
Influenced by the artist Amose and by Alex Trochut, he was never able to draw things the way they actually were; instead his creations come out odd and eerie.
Moe says he’s against keeping a list of «to-do’s», of things to get done, and prefers to live in the moment and enjoy the wait before the arrival of that «something» that gives him enough motivation to ease slowly into a new project. Savouring the moment and the feelings tied to making things.
Moe is the perfect example, one of many, of how passion can be — and is — the best engine there is for standing out. Every project, from the smallest to the biggest and most complex, has more going for it when it’s carried out with passion.
Passion and enthusiasm in particular are what make our Graphic Design studio in Barcelona a perfect place for people who share this philosophy and this way of working.
