In this instalment of Individuals we bring you a very, very current figure in graphic design: none other than Bigote Sucio.
You may not have heard of him. If that’s the case, I hope, in your own interest, that this post introduces you to someone who is contributing a great deal to our profession.
Set to keep doing great things through 2017, it wouldn’t be surprising if he became a name to reckon with.
Our fellow professional stands out, among other things, for his work as a graphic designer, illustrator and photographer.
In this post I’ll share a few keys to getting to know him properly.
Where does he come from?
Daniel Martín, aka Bigote Sucio, was born in 1982 on the outskirts of Madrid, with Spain in full effervescence and a magnificent Naranjito as the World Cup mascot.
From a young age he devoted his time to the art of graffiti and, drawn to urban culture, decided to study art at the «Escuela de Arte de la Palma», where he learned various artistic disciplines and stood out in drawing, printmaking, photography and video.
The birth of Bigote Sucio
After art school and his work as a ceramicist, he took on several professional commissions, mostly as a fashion photographer along with some graphic design work, producing illustrations and album cover design, promotional imagery and concert coverage.
It’s during this period that he began signing under the pseudonym Bigote Sucio, which has stayed with him across his different artistic pursuits.
In 2010 he moved to a small village in Granada, where he began creating his fine art work.
Personally, and as a fellow professional, we’d highlight his work as a creator in general and, specifically, his work as a graphic designer, illustrator and pattern maker.
A very fresh, urban and contemporary style, steeped in the knowledge and craft of someone with a highly developed creative drive.
